Does a product modelling project always result in a configurator?

Traditionally, a product modelling project will result in a configurator, but you can also carry out phases of the product modelling process and still benefit from some of the advantages of product modelling. The product modelling process will for example result in a review of the company product portfolio. Companies often tend to work up innumerable variants of both product components and products as such, which are very costly to maintain/service. Apart from reviewing the product portfolio the knowledge necessary to manufacture the product will become accessible to the employees. Hidden knowledge is also a recurring problem in many organisations.
