Is there a connection between knowledge administration and product modelling?

Product modelling is the process by which the knowledge of e.g. the structure, function, manufacture, transport, assembling, use etc. of products is entered into a well-arranged information structure, that is to say a structure giving a clear view of the components of a product and related processes. Thus, the product model consists of the company’s complete knowledge of the area in question. The further use of the established knowledge base depends on the strategic decision made.
