Which departments of a company use product modelling?

Product modelling may concern both the company as a whole or some of its departments – it all depends of the object! If, for example the object was to develop a sales configurator to support a single product, it is probably a limited part of the organisation that is to be involved in the project. On the other hand, the ambition might be to have the configurator include all the products and processes of the company which will make quite different demands on the organisation. Thus, product modelling projects can have both operational and strategic consequences, and the decision to start a product modelling project must therefore be made on a management level.
